Mrs. Daisy Reed, the Center's unit manager, later librarian, organized the Friends group in 1970. The purpose of the Friends was to support the Center by volunteering, raising funds to supplement programming, sponsor field trips for children of the community and an annual Community Day and any other programs to benefit the community.
In 1989 the Friends held their first Fashion Show and Luncheon each spring. Since then it has been an annual fund raising event to benefit the Center and the building of an adjacent Cultural Center.
An annual book, bake and hoagie sale is held each fall in October/November with the proceeds being used for the Center.
